Four days built around Paisupok Lake

The Luwuk Banggai tour for people who came for the lake. Paisupok Lake, known locally as Danau Paisupok and also written Paisu Pok, is a freshwater lake in the Banggai Islands so clear that boats appear to hang above their own shadows. This trip gives it a full morning, reached by speedboat at first light when the surface is still glass.

Before that comes a waterfall day that is worth the trip on its own: a moderate 3 km jungle trek to the 25-metre Mokokawa cascade with a swim in the pools beneath, the hidden 30-metre drop at Laumarang, and the turquoise plunge pools of Piala under limestone cliffs, finishing with sunset over Luwuk Bay from Teletubbies Hill.

The island day adds a nature trail at Paisubatango, lunch on the sand at Puganda, snorkelling with reef sharks in the shallow coves, and a sunset swim at Kilo 5 Beach on the way home.

How the four days run

Day 1: arrive in Luwuk, the waterfront promenade and the traditional market.
Day 2: the three waterfalls and the Teletubbies Hill sunset.
Day 3: an 04:30 start for Paisupok, Paisubatango, Puganda and Kilo 5.
Day 4: the artisan market for hand-woven textiles, then Luwuk Airport.

Central Sulawesi at its least visited, with the logistics handled so you spend the days in the water rather than working out ferry timetables.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Luwuk and see the town

Arrive in Luwuk. We meet you at Syukuran Aminuddin Amir Airport (LUW), or at your hotel if you are already in town. This trip starts and ends in Luwuk.
16:00–18:30
A run around Luwuk with a snack stop: the waterfront promenade, the traditional market, and the hill above the bay for the view back over town.
18:30–20:00
Dinner.
20:00–20:15
Check in at your hotel in Luwuk (Santika or equivalent).

The evening is yours.

Day 2

Mokokawa, Laumarang and Piala waterfalls, then Teletubbies Hill

Breakfast at the hotel.

The drive out to Mokokawa Waterfall.

Three and a half hours at Mokokawa, the longest waterfall stop of the trip, with time to walk in and swim.

Lunch.

Laumarang Waterfall, the quieter one, with a wide pool at the base.
14:30–16:30
Piala Waterfall, the tiered falls most people come to Luwuk for.
16:30–18:00
Teletubbies Hill for the light on the grass ridges and the view over Luwuk Bay.

Dinner, then back to the hotel.

Day 3

Paisupok Lake, Paisu Batango, Puganda Beach and Kilo 5

Early pickup and down to the harbour, where the guide runs through the day and loads the boat.

Three hours at Paisupok Lake, with breakfast at the lake. Spring-fed and clear to the bottom, with swimming and snorkelling throughout. Freedivers may bring their own gear.

12:00–12:30
Across to Puganda.

Lunch on the beach.

Two hours on Puganda Beach: white sand, reef just offshore, coconuts and the swings over the shallows.

The boat back to Luwuk.

Kilo 5, the swimming and snorkelling spot five kilometres out of town.

Dinner in Luwuk, then back to the hotel.

Day 4

Souvenirs in Luwuk and departure

Time to look for gifts in Luwuk: hand-woven cloth, wood carving and the local pressed cashews and seaweed crackers people take home.

Good to know

Can I swim at Piala Waterfall?

Yes, the pools are calm and clear. Arrive by 8 AM to enjoy them before it gets crowded and while the weather is still pleasant.

Are meals included?

Yes, three daily meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, arranged with local restaurants or packed picnic-style.

What are the top attractions?

The turquoise pools of Piala Waterfall, the jungle-framed Laumarang cascade, panoramic views from the hills above Luwuk, and reef-shark snorkeling at Pulau Dua.

Best time to visit?

June through September, the dry season, has minimal rain and peak visibility for snorkeling, with clear lake water.

Booking and cancellation terms

A 50% deposit confirms your booking. The balance is due the day before the tour starts.
Cancel 7 days or more before the tour date: 75% of the total paid is refunded.
Cancel less than 7 days before the tour date: 50% of the total paid is refunded.
Date changes are not possible once a booking is confirmed. A change request is treated as a cancellation.
Rescheduling is not available on Luwuk Banggai packages once confirmed.
Children aged 5 and over are charged the full adult rate.
Prices are set for the year of publication and can be revised for fuel, added routes, or new government rules.

Full terms are confirmed with your booking. Bank transfer fees are paid by the sender.

My best trip so far

This trip experience was really exciting and very enjoyable. My husband and I took this trip in May 2026. During the journey, we were accompanied by Brother Andry as a tour guide, while travel information was assisted by Brother Fitri. Brother Andry is informative, cheerful, and really understands what kind of travel is right for us. Itinerary during the trip also feels flexible and greatly tailored to our preferences and comfort, from food choices, physical abilities, accommodation, to the driver during the journey. So this trip feels more personal and comfortable to enjoy. Food during the trip was also delicious. We had a chance to try tuna sauce, woku shrimp, yellow rice, and the meal that Brother Andry gave is still my favorite. For accommodation also everything is comfortable, but my favorite is the accommodation whose location is not far from Lake Paisupok. The place is clean, cool, comfortable, and the atmosphere is really good for a break after a day of walks. We're kind of sorry to have booked this trip before we could freedive, so we haven't been able to fully enjoy the beautiful, colorful Sulawesi underwater beauty. But that's exactly what makes us want to go back one day. My favourite moments during the trip were paddling in Kawalu, swimming and playing morning water in Paisupok, enjoying the waterfalls, picking up my own fish, and of course enjoying a lot of delicious food hahaha.
