Singapore to Indonesia in 2026: Entry Rules, Bali and Beyond

Singaporeans do not need a visa for Bali or anywhere else in Indonesia: a Singapore passport gets you 30 days visa free. The only travel restrictions for travelling to Indonesia from Singapore in 2026 are paperwork. Complete the free All Indonesia Arrival Card online within 72 hours before you arrive, carry a passport valid for at least six months with proof of onward or return travel, and in Bali pay the IDR 150,000 tourist levy. Getting there is quick too: Batam is about an hour away by ferry, and Bali is 2 hours 40 minutes by air from Changi on the same clock (UTC+8), so there is no jet lag. You can leave the office on a Friday evening and be having breakfast over a rice terrace on Saturday morning. The problem is that most Singaporeans use that proximity to go to the same two or three places, and Indonesia is seventeen thousand islands. This guide is about making the short hop count: what it costs, what the entry rules are, and how to get somewhere that does not look like everyone else’s feed.

How to go to Bali from Singapore: flights and fares from Changi

If you are asking how to go to Bali from Singapore, the answer is a nonstop flight to Denpasar, about two hours forty minutes. Scoot and Singapore Airlines each fly it several times a day, and Garuda and TransNusa fill in the rest. That competition is why fares stay reasonable.

Fares dip around November and in the weeks after New Year, and climb through the June to August peak and over the year-end holidays. If your dates are fixed, book earlier rather than hunting for a sale that may not come.

By ferry: Batam and Bintan

There is no road or rail link between Singapore and Indonesia, so the only way in without flying is by sea. Fast ferries leave HarbourFront and Tanah Merah for Batam (Batam Centre, Harbour Bay, Sekupang and Nongsapura), roughly an hour at sea, and a day return is common. Since July 2026 the HarbourFront ferries use the new HarbourFront ferry terminal at 5 HarbourFront Avenue.

For Bintan, Bintan Resort Ferries sails Tanah Merah to Bandar Bentan Telani four times a day Monday to Thursday, first boat 08:10, with extra sailings from Friday to Sunday, and asks you to check in at least 1.5 hours before departure (current BRF timetable). Ferry times are local: Batam and Bintan are one hour behind Singapore. The arrival card and visa rules below apply at the ferry terminals too, and Batam's Hang Nadim airport has domestic flights to the rest of Indonesia if the ferry is the start of a longer trip.

Singapore to Indonesia travel restrictions in 2026: visa free, plus the arrival card

As a Singapore passport holder you enter Indonesia visa free for 30 days. It is not extendable and cannot be converted to another visa, so if you want longer you need to leave and come back on a visa on arrival, or apply for the right visa before you travel.

If you live in Singapore on another passport, the rule is different. Most European, Japanese, Korean and Chinese passports need the visa on arrival, IDR 500,000 (about USD 28) for 30 days, which you can buy online in advance as an e-VOA or pay for on arrival at Indonesian airports and at the Batam and Bintan ferry terminals; our guide to the visa on arrival rules has the details. Hong Kong SAR passports are visa free for 30 days, like ASEAN ones. Arriving in Bali also costs IDR 150,000 (about USD 8) per person for the Bali tourist levy, payable in advance on the provincial Love Bali site.

Beyond that: passport valid for at least six months with two blank pages, and proof of onward or return travel. Nothing unusual, but the arrival card still catches people out, so do it before you fly.

Getting beyond Bali, which is the whole point

Here is where a Singapore trip gets interesting. Because your flight in is so short, you have time to use a domestic connection that a European visitor could never justify on a one-week trip. Bali to Labuan Bajo is another 75 minutes and puts you in Komodo National Park, with Padar’s three bays, manta rays at Manta Point and the dragons themselves. Or skip Bali altogether: Scoot's direct Changi to Labuan Bajo flight gets you there without a connection. Nusa Penida is a 45-minute fast boat from Sanur if you only have a weekend. Flores, Sumbawa and Sulawesi are all a single domestic hop.

On the ground, Gojek and Grab work in the cities and in south Bali and are far cheaper than hotel transfers. Register the apps before you leave Singapore, because both verify by SMS and it is simpler to do on your home number. Outside the tourist areas you will be arranging a car and driver, which is normal and inexpensive, and something we handle for guests as a matter of course.

Indonesia runs a dry season from roughly April to October and a wet season from November to March. Wet season does not mean washed out, it usually means a heavy afternoon downpour and a bright morning, but for boat trips it matters, because sea conditions get rougher and some crossings get cancelled.

Money, and why it feels cheap

The currency is the rupiah, and one Singapore dollar is worth roughly 13,900 of them (September 2026). Restaurant meals, drivers, massages and domestic flights all cost noticeably less than the same thing at home, which is a large part of Indonesia’s appeal from Singapore.

Card payments and QRIS, the national QR standard, are close to universal in Bali’s tourist areas and in the cities. Still carry two or three hundred thousand rupiah in cash for warungs, boat crews, park fees and anywhere rural. Foreign card ATM withdrawals attract a local fee of roughly 25,000 to 50,000 rupiah on top of whatever your bank charges, so take out larger amounts less often.

Food: familiar, and better than you expect

This is the easiest part for a Singaporean palate. Nasi goreng, satay, rendang, sambal and laksa cousins all live here in their original context, and the standard at a good warung will often beat the food-court version you know. Eat at the busy places, eat early in the evening while things are fresh, and do not be shy of a plastic-stool operation with one dish on the menu.

Two notes. Indonesian chilli levels run higher than Singaporean defaults, so ask for sambal on the side if you are unsure. And Bali is Hindu-majority, so pork appears freely on menus there in a way it does not in most of the rest of the country. If you need halal food, it is straightforward in Java, Lombok and Sulawesi, and findable in Bali with a little planning, particularly around Denpasar, Kuta and Nusa Dua.

Practical bits that save a morning

Get an eSIM before you land rather than queuing at the airport. Telkomsel has the best coverage once you leave the main islands, which matters if you are heading to Flores or Sulawesi. Plugs are the same two-pin type you use at home at 230V, so no adapter needed. English is widely spoken in tourism, less so in villages, and a few words of Bahasa Indonesia goes a long way. Tipping is not obligatory, though rounding up for a driver or a boat crew is normal and appreciated.

Where to actually go

If you have a long weekend, stay in Bali but base yourself away from the south, or take the fast boat to Nusa Penida. With five days you can reach Komodo properly, including a night or two on a boat.
